we started this program March 14th, 2020, the day quarantine was announced,
with the goal of helping students with the sudden and difficult transition into at home learning.
Behind OSL: Nicole MasarovaNicole Masarova is a senior at Hillsdale High School and she has a passion for community service and humanities. She still can't believe that OSL went from tutoring family friends, all the way to tutoring a whole community! She still tutors multiple kids about 4-5 times a week, maintains the website, and connects parents with tutors, handling communications and publicity. She would love to thank all of the tutors, without whom this program would never have grown so much. They volunteer hours of their time every week, dedicating to helping those in the community who have been hit hardest by the pandemic.

Why is OSL important?IN SIX MONTHS, BAY AREA'S UNEMPLOYMENT SHOT UP FROM 2% TO 11%.
How can families be expected to be the parent, worker, and teacher all at once? COVID-19 changed our world with no warning. And with companies downsizing, jobs being deemed inessential, and family owned businesses failing, more families are pushed underneath the poverty line. In addition to that, schools have transitioned to distanced learning, isolated students from their teachers. How can students be expected to learn independently during such unsure times? How can families be expected to afford private tutoring to support their kids?
OURSHAREDLEARNING IS HERE TO AID DURING DISTANCED LEARNING, FOR FREE, TO LIMIT FINANCIAL STRESS.
Our tutors work completely for free, never expecting any financial compensation at any point. We match tutors that feel extremely comfortable in certain areas to students that request specific help in those areas, in order to ensure the quality of the tutoring, after vetting each tutor individually. After that, students begin meeting with the tutor, and before long, students feel comfortable with the tutor that dedicates their time, focused on the child's understanding of material. OurSharedLearning is proud of how big we've been able to grow, without charging a single family for any hour of tutoring, now providing over 1500 hours of free tutoring (as of 6/26/2020).
